As characters establish their 'haunts', we will track them here. Having a few places where characters frequently shop, rent, research, gather, etc. will allow more interaction between the cast members and help 'shrink' the city of London, so to speak. Please feel free to add to the list. Stores, parks, and any other place characters might be occasionally found are welcome.
ACTUAL PLACES IN LONDON*List in progress. Also, see our 'Links for Research' page. The
Map of London 1868 is also useful, as it lists breweries, pubs, hospitals, prisons, etc.
FICTIONAL PLACES IN LONDONAs we create 'fictional' locations (aka NPC Locations) that other writers can use, we'll add them to the list below. Please include pictures or floor plans (if possible), descriptions, general locations, and the names of any important characters (NPC or cast members) associated with the locations.
BromleyAn asylum for criminal lunatics and the generally insane. Located on Hanbury Street.
The Dragon's ArmsA tavern in Whitechapel.
The Royal OakA public assembly hall used for dances and large meetings.
Kingdom's VarietyA music hall. Caters to a fairly broad financial spectrum of customers. Has a variety of acts performing on stage, ranging from musicians to singers and dancers. Has boxes on the upper level, for richer customers to use. Most people use the lower one; this consists of many tables, around which are arranged chairs. A bar exists, off to one side, where drinks can be purchased.
Sergeant at Arms Rare BooksThomas Bramble's rare and antique book store. It occupies the basement, ground, and first floors of the Sergeant at Arms tenement flats building in White Chapel. Bramble is well regarded as an authority on occult subjects, and his shop is likely to be a destination along many an investigation's route. The building itself is a corner affair, situated at the intersections of Ruppert Street, Great Prescott Street, and Lambeth Street, just across from Hooper's Square. The proper entrance to the shop lies on Lambeth, just below street level.
The AviaryA beauty products and perfume boutique run by Berdette Daugney. The decoration inside is fanciful, with flacons of perfume resting in silk nests and jars of pomade stacked high inside gilded cages. Most eye-catching of all are the cages holding real birds placed all around the store. Each bird is brightly colored and jewel-like, some are even downright exotic. Further back is a small lounge-area, complete with bookshelves( all literature on them conservative and light ), tea, and pastries. There is also a locked door that leads presumably to the office. The atmosphere inside is gay and the shop is brightly lit. The Aviary is on Stanhope right off of Sussex Square. Currently Izzy Alderice works at The Aviary as the caretaker of the numerous birds housed inside. There are three positions other than Berdette's in the shop that are currently held by NPCs. They are an accountant, a maid/waitress and a floor sales(wo)man. Please contact Finn if you are interested in having your character work here!
Debenham & Freebody's
A department store with ready-made clothing and decent quality accessories. Carries clothing for women, children and men with the former being more expensive. Prices are affordable to those in middle and upper-middle class. Takes up two floors with the lower floor being mens and the upper womens and childrens. Both floors have a measuring/trying-on area.
It can be found on Top Tenham.
(based off historical business)
Blind Bail BondsA slightly seedy bail bonds office found on the corner of Farringdon Turnmill and Benjamin. Run by Robert Sigsbee, a middle-class cad with a squad of apathetic bounty hunters. He doesn't mind turning children out on the street because their father is going to prison. It's business, after all. He has a wife and four kids. The wife, Hannah Sigsbee, can be found working at Kingdom's Variety as a secretary.
182 Field LaneA molly house in Holborn. Molly houses are where homosexual and cross-dressing men could meet each other and sexual partners. In this private residence there are five to six young men, who dress up in female clothes and basically take on a female persona. They are the "mollies". It is run by Madame Clapier, a middle-aged woman who runs a tight show. Business hours are signified by an icon of St. Valentine placed on the windowsill.*

*In accordance with our guidelines, we ask that writers refrain from describing sex acts involving children.A Delicate ConfectionA confection and pastry cafe patronized by upper-middle to high-class ladies. All manner of sweet pastries and candies can be found here for a moderate price; they have a fine selection of teas as well. There is limited seating inside, and a long glass counter at the back. It is attached to
Lindshey's, a very expensive bon-bon and fine chocolates store. The marble-topped tables are a favored place for " Five o'clock tea". It is located in Redford Square.
Judge and JuryAn exclusive gentlemen's club. Not too much is publicly known about it. The small windows are shuttered and one must give a password to a bouncer at the door. The tales from inside would be outrageous, but the walls cannot speak. It is tucked away on Taviton.
The SharpshotA gun store of low means in Whitechapel. It is infamous for carrying illegally gotten goods ( though the police have no evidence yet ). Rumor has it that it is also a checkpoint on a smuggling route. Tennyson Jack is certainly keeping his mouth shut on what goes on behind the scenes in his store. A persistent person could probably find unusual and experimental weapons here, but they would have to go about getting to them in a certain way.
