Tips for Applicant SuccessThis is a featured page

By intentional design, our characters are mostly originals (with a few exceptions from Buffy and Angel). Do not apply a crossover character (i.e. a character from another genre, like Gabriel Van Helsing) or an actual person (ex. a celebrity) to the game. We also suggest you look at our cast list to see what concepts already exist and where there are gaps your application could fill! The moderators are open to chatting about this before you apply, if you'd like.

There are few limitations to the type of original character you may apply for. If it's well-written and grabs the interest of the moderating team, there is a good possibility your character will be approved, unless it seems too similar to an existing one, or completely contradicts the lore we've established. Anticipate that the moderators might want to fine-tune the profile or character details with you.

Helpful hint... Balance your character's strengths with weaknesses. Check out our resources on character-building here.

We will ask you to provide an 'archetype' for your character. Example: 'Reluctant Hero'. The archetype may evolve over time (development is good!). We know that the archetype may also soften in certain contexts (for instance, the 'cold villain' might behave differently with a lover), but shouldn't completely disappear or completely contradict itself.

We will also ask you to provide an initial goal, motivation, and conflict for your character. It may be a major plot point that you intend to address as you integrate your character. However, it could also be something relatively minor (goal- to find a job, motivation- poor as hell, conflict- limited skills). We think having an initial GMC will help your character land in the community with inspiration for scenes.

Applications for full-time characters with pre-existing connections to current characters will be considered sparingly (for example, the sibling of a present character). We ask that characters not be created specifically to interact with one character.

If you need a temporary or 'NPC' character...
Moderator approval is not required to create temporary 'NPC' characters for your plots.

But wait...!
Before you submit it, have a look at Wiki's article on Mary Sue and the infamous Mary Sue Litmus Test. Avoid 'sue-ing' when possible. We're all a little guilty. This test is hilarious and reminds us to tone it down.
